“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world.” -Buddha We are what we think. The simplicity of the idea masks its depth. We don’t see our thoughts, yet they can both weigh us down and lift us up. We spend a lot of time thinking about what others think about us. How much of your identity is based on what you perceive others believe about you? Your thoughts create your identity. Are you your job? Do you see yourself solely as a wife and mother? Are you the obedient daughter? Maybe you are the friend everyone can count on. Each is a positive thought in moderation. It’s when all of the thoughts clutter the authentic self that people get physically, spiritually, and emotionally overwhelmed. Take 15 minutes to be you. If you live in a house like mine, it’s a lot to ask. It means putting you first for a tiny fraction out of a 24 hour day. Sit quietly and release the stressors in your life. If doing nothing is difficult for you; consider it thought house keeping. You are dusting off the thoughts cluttering your mind and releasing them to an emotional dumpster out in the universe. When there is more you, your world is a better place. Being you is good enough. Let yourself shine for the incredible person God intended you to be, not for what others would like you to be.
