Spiritual Principles and the Law of Attraction

Your emotions impact your vibration

Since the production of The Secret, the Law of Attraction has become something of a New Age buzzword. Many speak of the Law of Attraction as though it were some magical "Lucky Girl" tool that they can use to draw in whatever they desire in life. This assumption is partially correct. Manifesting works, but only because it is an enduring spiritual principle, dressed up in modern mysticism with a touch of boho thrown in.

Spiritual Principles and Energy

As human beings, we are comprised of both physical and spiritual aspects. We are part of an even greater entity we know as mankind, which in turn is part of the web of life on Earth, and an even greater Universe.

Think of your body as a map of the Universe. We are energetically connected to all things around us. If you've ever experienced a chakra balancing, you know that when our bodies are allowed to function on a level of balance (between internal and external influences), then we experience a positive energy flow with the external forces that surround us.

The Spiritual Principle that Like Attracts Like

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. In other words, similar energies are attracted to each other. This law of physics, the Law of Attraction, is exactly how we attract what shows up in our lives. At first glance, it seems like a simple enough concept. Simple in principle but not so much in practice.

We know from physics that everything on earth emits a vibration; atoms, rocks, animals, humans, and even thoughts. We, humans, sense our world through vibrations that are in turn transmuted into waves. Common sensory experiences would include vision where our eyes sense light waves and hearing where our ears sense sound waves.

Each emotion we have comes with its own vibration as well. So, joy would be a vastly different emotion from despair, sadness very different from contentment, etc. They feel different to us due to this difference in vibration. We have been given our emotions as a tool to understand where we are in relation to what it is we want in life.

When we feel despair, we are not on the same vibrational level as the joy we want and these emotions are an indication of the distance between where we are and what we desire. They are here to show us what we are in the process of creating if we continue on in the same vibrational thought pattern.

This doesn't mean we can instantly jump from grief to ecstasy, but if we can notice our feelings and consciously choose thoughts that help us feel better, we can move the vibration up and create a shift in our experience.

The Spiritual Principle of Repricocity

What you put out there in the Universe is exactly what you will get back. It does sound simple until you start diving deeper into your own behavior in life and actually take a good hard look at how you have been creating what shows up in your life. That's why it's not just the thoughts you think, it's the vibration that accompanies the thoughts

This level of self-awareness is key to avoiding self-sabotage, by using these spiritual principles against ourselves. Certainly, we can't go around denying our emotional reality and pretending everything is ok when it's not. Spiritual bypassing doesn't help anyone. But we also need to become keenly aware of times we become overly focused on the negative, lest a negative focus crowds everything else out.

When we focus on the negative, our vibration slips and we attract the very things that we don’t want. The spiritual principle simply states that like attracts like. Our words and thoughts have the power to manifest, and also to banish, create, and also to destroy. This is why you'll hear us say, "Be careful what you think."

Emotions and Vibrations

Look, bad things happen. People act in ways that are beyond our control. Like Mr. Hayes, we may struggle with finances, or we may experience health crises, traumatic breakups, loss, and grief. Although circumstances may be beyond our control, how we respond to those circumstances is within our control. Life is always giving us opportunities to rise to the challenge of dealing with the hard stuff while protecting our spirit, and our vibration.

Sometimes you can reframe the situation to see what opportunity is being presented for you, seizing it as a learning tool, and feeling better as it becomes clearer. Other times, you will have to refocus on something completely different to begin feeling better. As you become more consistent at reaching for a better feeling thought, you will notice your life seems to flow easier.

Here's an experiment you can try. Decide to really watch your emotions and how you are feeling about what is currently going on. If it feels good, continue to focus that way and keep bringing in that joy. If it feels bad to you, notice that and ask yourself why and how you could shift to something that feels better. As you strengthen your ability to acknowledge and shift to a higher vibration, notice how signs and synchronicities begin to appear, and circumstances begin to change.

Applying Spiritual Principles in Practice

In order to apply the Law of Attraction in your life successfully, you need to become aware of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and be willing to take an honest look at yourself at a deeper, spiritual level. Remember, that we are all connected; all things are symbiotic; nothing is free. Whenever you receive something, there must be an exchange, at the very least on an energetic level.

For example, there was a man named Mr. Hayes, who was jobless. Though he suffered economic hardship, he demonstrated kindness to others. One day while in a grocery store, the woman that was ahead of him in line dropped a $100 bill on the ground. She didn’t even know that it fell. Mr. Hayes picked it up and gave it to her. She was ecstatic that a stranger would be so honest, especially one that could clearly use $100. Her thanking him led to a conversation in which it was revealed that the woman was a wealthy business owner. She decided she needed Mr. Hayes' refreshing honesty within her company. She later hired him into an administrative position and paid him well, turning his circumstances around.

This is an example of how when you give, you receive. By returning the found money, he activated the Law of Attraction. This is his part of the exchange. The Universe responded by giving him not only a job but a career. The Universe is generous like that; the giver receives many times over.
