As an active mom of four very busy kids, this year my word is BALANCE! It is so easy to get lost in carpool, playdates and nightly piles of homework. Even as I write this I'm listening to my mp3 player cranked up to drown out the sound of kids playing video games and singing along to the Glee sound track. This year I have vowed that I will carve out a little time for myself every week. My biggest question was how do I do this. So I started my search. First I found a wonderful meditation circle that meets at a local new age book store. This few hours a week of time to myself has had an amazing effect. I have met amazing like minded people and always leave with a more peaceful heart than when I came in.
The second thing I found was a meetup group that does a monthly hiking trip close to the city where I live. It's good for me to get away out in nature for the day. As an added bonus I've also brought another group of great people into my life. In this day and age with facebook and smart phones it's so important for me to be able to unplug for the day.
For anyone out there still searching for a place for that "me" time or a group of like minded people, I strongly recommend looking into checking the boards at your area library, book stores, and meet ups. I'm sure you'll love what you will find.
