I really feel that part of enlightenment is finding our own happiness. We are given the choice of how we want to live our lives. On occasion we do hit rocky points in our path which cause minor setbacks when something unexpected happens. Ultimately, it is our decision of how to react in every situation. We can choose to hold onto this negative causing more suffering, or choose to make light of the situation and find a way to make it positive. Most of our suffering, we do to ourselves!
The main part of suffering includes holding onto negative emotions or situations that have happened in our past. We are apt to remember the negative before we remember the positive, because the negative affects us in a different way. It causes an inner pain we don’t want to forget only because we don’t want that negative situation to happen again. We feel that we are learning from it and moving forward, but really we have put ourselves on the defensive by putting up a wall. In a sense we are expecting it to happen again. This is normal, since we are emotional humans!
Since these negative situations have already happened, it’s time to remember that it is in our past for a reason. To learn from it and move on, we have to forgive first and then realize these situations are not affecting any of what’s happening in our lives today. This is not easy at first, but it’s true that time heals all wounds. If we do not carry our past experiences into our present ones, we find ourselves moving forward into new situations with an open mind and an open heart.
So, wake up tomorrow knowing that tomorrow is a new day, and the past is behind you. All you can do is live and make positive changes in the
present for a brighter future!
