Once we have come home to the peaceful center of our being through a regular spiritual practice we will see the fruits of our new positive outlook, as bad habits begin to fall away and more positive energy is generated. Now, what to do with all that energy?!
Much of our increased energy will be given to the people in our lives – our family, friends and coworkers. But at the risk of sounding selfish, I am going to strongly recommend that we keep some of that energy for ourselves. You are just as deserving as everyone else! So, what can you do to benefit and enrich your own life, to help you be the person you want to become?
Try something new! Is there something you have always wanted to do but never made time for it? Well now is the time. Learn a language. Take a class or do some independent study on a subject that interests you. Explore a new hobby. Play with your creativity. Get into an exercise routine or a sport. Plant an organic vegetable garden.
With your new enhanced positive attitude, perhaps you feel ready to take on a challenge that was previously too daunting. You are no longer stuck in a rut. Before you were saying “I can’t” but now you are confident, “I can!” Meeting such challenges is very rewarding and helps prevent boredom and/or falling back into old habits. You will enjoy your life, with the understanding that this happiness did not come from external circumstances; it came from within you! As my teacher Mark Whitwell says, “You are a flower blooming in your own garden.”
