Texting Tips for Women by Psychic Arthur
Date 6/20/2013
Men use their cell phones and texting to communicate information, while women use their cell phone and texting to be social. With this in mind, here are some Mars/Venus texting suggestions:
1. If a woman sends a guy a text and he doesn’t respond, the last thing she needs to do is keep sending texts until he responds. First, while she may be free to text, he may not be. It’s kind of like calling a guy and he says, “I’m busy.” The same thing happens here; if he’s busy he’s not going to be texting back, “Sorry, I’m busy right now.” He’s not going to respond because he’s, well, busy. He’ll read the text and reply when he can. Believe me, sending a guy fifteen texts in ten minutes is NOT going to get him to text back faster. He may be a little creeped out and go silent for a while.
2. If a woman sends a guy a text that is a statement, rather than a question, she needs to understand he will read it as “information.” And to a guy, information does not warrant a response. Yes, it would be nice for a guy to reply, but basically only women send thank you notes for thank you notes. Want a response? Ask a question. But make sure it’s a real question and not a something just to get him to text you back. He’ll know the difference.
3. If a woman sends a guy a text that she believes is humorous, she needs to add a “modifier,” like LOL or even a grin or smiley face. Why? The guy may not understand her sense of humor. If she adds a modifier he’ll understand that what she said in a text was a joke. With a text, there’s no voice inflection so what may be a joke to her may be interpreted in a very different way by the guy. Since men can be very literal, she needs to help the guy out so he’s not thinking, “Gee, she’s offensive.”
4. If a woman receives a text from a guy with a simple statement, to the guy, he is simply sending information – nothing more, nothing less. She can respond with a simple reply, but if she starts sending questions and wanting a long text conversation, he may not reply (see #2).
5. If a woman receives a text from a guy confirming a date, she should text him back if she’s able to. The last thing she needs to do is “play busy” or pretend that she didn’t get the text. Why? When a guy texts, it’s about information. In this case, he’s looking forward to connecting with her. If she plays games and has the guy thinking, “Are we still on?” or “What’s going on?” he’ll interpret her actions to mean: “I guess she’s not interested.” Remember, guys only fight for the girl in made-for-TV movies on Lifetime. If there’s too much drama, or something’s getting too difficult, a guy’s gonna bolt (see my previous article: Should You Play Hard to Get).
So, the moral of the story, texting is definitely a new means for connecting and planning activities when it comes to dating. However, where there’s communication, there’s often miscommunication. Take advantage of texting, but make sure to use SMS in a thoughtful and balanced way since it can end up being a double-edged sword that can ruin a relationship.
