My Grandma used to make the BEST bread-pudding, and like her, I prefer using more than one kind of bread.
I made this the other night with French and potato bread. I prefer cranberries to raisins, and I add a shot of brandy to mine. It's a “hit or miss" recipe I make from instinct and memory, like birds flying south for the winter.
This time I used one loaf of French bread and a few slices of potato bread torn up in little chunks.
I poured a stick of melted butter over it, then poured my batter over it.
Top it off with a bag of dried cranberries.
Preheat the oven to 350 and bake it for an hour.
The aroma reminded me of a different era. My kitchen smelled like love.
