Many of us go to those New Age shops and look at all the bags and bags of herbs and wonder what on earth people are doing with that stuff.
For me, I use herbs for Aromatherapy. When the season turns to winter or summer, basically anytime you must close your windows from the extreme weather, herbs brighten up your space. Take a small crock pot – like you would use to keep queso warm (does anyone else want nachos with queso suddenly?) fill it about 1/3 of the way up with water. Add a touch of your favorite essential oil and then place some herbs in there to slowly steep and heat up. Such good smells my friends!
My recipe for brightening up a dull day in the middle of January is a touch of Frankincense oil (it helps with the blues) and place some dried valerian or rosemary herbs in there, and you will feel better in no time!
In the warm months of the summer, I love to add dried lavender to the same small crock pot with water and let it slowly warm up spreading the calming smell of lavender all over your home. I also add lavender to my lemonade, and it gives the drink a fresh and happy energy.
Some people believe that valerian and frankincense will help with anxiety and depression. It has helped me! Then again, I’m not sure if it’s the power of the herbs or the power of my mind. In the end, it doesn’t matter. Use herbs like you use them in your kitchen for cooking. Try some different herbs out, and if you don’t like it – move on! There are several great sites on the mighty internet that will help you find the herb that will suit your needs today, tomorrow and every day.
