Learn how to overcome regret so you can get a fresh start in your life.

Although some people like to say they live their lives with no regrets, that just isn't possible. Everyone feels regret at one time or another — in fact, probably many times — during their lifetime. However, we have to learn how to get past those feelings and move on. If you're having a hard time overcoming regret, here are some helpful tips that can help give you a clear conscience and a clean slate.

Accept That You Make Mistakes

You're human, and that means you're going to make mistakes. One of the first steps to overcoming your regret is to accept that this is just part of being alive. While you may think that feeling regretful is a negative quality, it is not. Rather, it shows that you care. You must accept that you, like everyone else, make mistakes. Face that reality, and then recognize that you need to move forward.

Make Amends

If the action that you regret has hurt another person, try to make amends. Sometimes an apology, without excuses, is all that a person needs to hear to forgive you. So make an honest apology, without falling into the common trap of overcompensating. If you're not sure what to say to the person you hurt, a psychic chat could give you some guidance.

Leave It in the Past

Once you've accepted that it's only natural to make mistakes, it's important to realize that you have to leave those mistakes and the pain they cause behind. You can't rewrite history, and it will do absolutely no good to dwell on what you've said or done. If you keep giving your regret a voice, it will feel bigger than it actually is. Instead, stop the negative self-talk, and move on with your life.

Do the Opposite of What You Regret

If you simply feel like you can't stop dwelling on the things you regret, do something about it. Actions are very powerful, and sometimes the simple act of doing the opposite of what you regret will help you feel better and get the fresh outlook you need. For example, make cookies for a friend, or volunteer for one of your favorite causes. Consider a psychic phone reading to give you more ideas about how you can move past your regrets.

Reflect on What Makes You Grateful

When you focus on what makes you happy, you don't have time to focus on your regrets. Consider starting a "grateful journal" where you write down what you're thankful for. Every day, list three things or people that you're grateful for. Once you start spending more time focusing on the positive, you'll start to feel happier and freer.

It's normal to feel regret, but try not to let it hold you back. If your regret is causing you persistent pain and you just can't seem to shake it, try some of these tips to achieve a clean slate. You're probably more resilient than you think.
