Calming Your Restless Mind

Meditation is one of the best ways to calm a restless mind.

Buddha described the human mind as being filled with drunken monkeys. The screeching, chattering, and chaos of this monkey mind makes it nearly impossible to focus and think clearly. A restless mind can keep you running in circles or veer off in unexpected directions when you need to settle your attention on one place. If your brain is battling primate chatter, the following strategies might help.

Learn to Meditate

Meditation is the best tool for calming your mind. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Any time a thought emerges, gently push it away. If you can't keep your mind quiet, choose a mantra to repeat and focus on.

Practice meditating for five minutes a day and gradually increase your time, keeping with a regular practice. Meditation is difficult at first, but in time it will become second nature, and you'll find that you can call up a calm, meditative mind at your desk, on the bus, or anywhere else you need it.

Keep a Journal

Writing can help you clear some of the circling thoughts out of your head. You can journal freely about your feelings, make a list of things to do, or draft a mind map that outlines all the restless ideas jumping about in your brain. Putting your thoughts on paper relieves you of the worry that you'll forget these ideas if you focus on something else. Storing your thoughts in a journal keeps them safe and allows you to let them go until you're ready for them.

Talk It Out

Talking to another insightful person can help you sort through a jumble of thoughts and discard the worries and ideas that aren't really serving you. You can have a good chat with a trusted friend, family member, or online psychic. Sharing your thoughts with someone else can help you clear the clutter out of your head.

Stop Multitasking

Multitasking is a myth. You can only fully focus on one thing at a time, so stop trying to complete two activities at once. Don't look at your phone while having a conversation or pick up a book while the television is on. Do one thing at a time and train your brain to settle down and focus.

Think About the Future

Look ahead and consider which goals and concerns are most important for your future. Discard worries or thoughts that don't have any relevance to the life you're trying to build. If you're suffering from a restless mind because you can't decide which path to take, an authentic psychic reading may help you settle on a route so you can let go of the considerations associated with other paths.

A restless mind can keep you from reaching your full potential. Don't let the drunken monkeys take over. Regain control over your thoughts and pursue focus and calm instead.
