How to Cope with Financial Stress
Published Date 5/17/2012
Financial instability and lack of jobs are an everyday worry in today’s challenging economy. Even though fulfilling careers and secure jobs help us to fulfill our personal goals and build our social networks, while providing us with an income, when they become unreliable or end abruptly, they become detrimental to our overall health.
What do you do when the money worries disturb sleep, elevate the blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and creates anxiety, stress, and all kind of health issues?
One helpful resource is opening and sharing with others your concerns, remembering you are not alone, and unfortunately many of your friends, co-workers and/or family members share the same worries. Sometimes simply exchanging views and learning about how others coped with the distress, brings some sense of orientation and clarity about what to do next. Another alternative is to seek counsel or guidelines from trustful sources.
But depending on the personality, some people endure in silence the agony of the financial uncertainties, and prefer to release the stress through exercise, volunteering or going back to school; or they just fade into some depressive mood, which affects everything in their lives.
Nevertheless, a transitional period of financial hardship could stir the creativity and awaken new insights to look for alternatives and solutions.
When it seems things are stagnant and hopeless, a positive attitude brings transformation and change, which offers a refocusing towards new possibilities.
Fortunately, there are many ways to help manage job-related and financial stress, and understand cycles. Suggestion: keep trying, take care of your body, mind and spirit, and seek any supportive advice to regain and attract the balance you deserve
