Meditation can be so beneficial.
We live in a busy world, with much of our time dedicated to problems, solutions and issues! Letting go of your daily grind can be difficult. Meditation can be a wonderful way to relax, de-stress and really take some time to focus on the now.
Here are practical tips to help beginners learn to meditate at home:
Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Sit or lay in a relaxed position.
Use candles or incense carefully.
Make sure the room is a comfy temperature.
Meditate when you aren’t tired so you don’t fall asleep. Mediation is an awareness activity, not a means to getting 40 winks.
Focus on your breath and only your breath. If your mind wanders, simply call it back to the breath.
Take deep breaths through your nose and longer exhales through your nose or mouth.
Start with 5 minutes twice a day and increase your time when you feel it’s right.
After the first week, start a mindful self-relaxation by bringing attention to your body. In your mind, say, “The back of my head is relaxed, my ears are relaxed, my eyes are relaxed, etc.,.”
