As we draw near to the holiday season, I know many of you are not looking forward to this time with difficult family and relationships. As sensitive people, we often overlook our own needs and tend to try to make everyone else happy and satisfied often at our own expense.

We leave the holidays feeling drained, upset, and even angry with other people. It is very important to know that you do not have to continue holiday traditions if they leave you broke, miserable, or depleted in any way. It is okay to say no and to make other plans.

So, let's talk about setting boundaries.

Setting boundaries simply means you will no longer allow others to trespass on your energy. Setting boundaries means you say NO when you feel NO. It means saying you have other plans or not answering calls.

Do not feel guilty over setting boundaries for yourself or your children. Children do not deserve to be around relatives who play favorites or play games. And quite frankly, neither do you. Stand up for yourself and your loved ones. This does not mean that you need to get angry or belittle anyone. It simply means that you are saying NO, and not backing down because you are important. Your feelings ARE important and your holidays should be spent feeling happy and joyful.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
