Be true to yourself. 

We've all heard that phrase somewhere, but have you every applied it to your life? What does it even mean, you may ask. 

Being true to yourself can mean many things depending on your perspective, but at the core it means doing things that call to you and resonate with you instead of doing what society, your upbringing, or people around you tell you that you should or need to do. 

It can be scary taking that first step. It can even create chaos around you for a while because those who have been taking advantage of you don't want you to say, “enough of this, I'm going to live my life for me.” They will try to keep you in the role that they are used to you being in, or that they want you in for their benefit. 

Start Small
Being true to yourself doesn't require big leaps though. It can be as simple as listening to your body and taking a break when you need to or setting aside time for yourself. Society teaches us that doing so is being selfish or is a luxury, but it's not. It's necessary for a person's wellness on all levels. When you give and give and give to others, eventually you will have nothing left to give when it's really needed. That's why it's important to make sure you take care of yourself first. When you are being true to yourself, you're also living in harmony with your own energy and drawing to your energies that resonate with your own. When we do things that don't resonate with our energy, it feels off or even icky. That's because it doesn't match your frequency, it clashes with it, creating a dissonance. 

A Weight Has Been Lifted
I've noticed personally that when I finally decided to follow the path that resonated with me, instead of putting my life off to focus on everyone else, it was like a weight was lifted off that I hadn't realized I was carrying. Everything in my life started to shift. Even the more negative experiences ended up being beneficial for me because they solidified my decisions and made me stronger. 

The negative and toxic people in my life started drifting away and more people who had energies like mine came into my life and I felt like I was finally “home.” All the positive things were amplified. My abilities increased, my resilience regarding the ups and downs of life increased, I've had fewer run-ins with negative or toxic people, and I have more energy. 

Those who really need my help have been able to find me easier and more consistently, so I've felt like my work has become more effective. That's not to say that negative things don't happen, they do, but I'm able to move through them more confidently because I work from the basis of “does this support me on my path” and “does this feel right” rather than just reacting to what's going on.
