According to the Chinese Zodiac, we say goodbye to the Year of the Rabbit and hello to the Year of the Dragon, Monday, January 23, 2012. The Dragon is the fifth animal of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animals signs. A legendary revered creature of myth, The Dragon (made up of different animals such as a tiger, fish, snake, and an eagle) is the only animal of the Chinese zodiac year that isn’t real.  Also, the Dragon is not seen as a frightening evil creature – rather it is the ultimate auspicious symbol signifying success, happiness, outstanding luck, power, and wisdom.

While the Year of the Rabbit could be considered tranquil, the Year of the Dragon brings excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and strength. Those with an entrepreneurial spirit are favored to see much success in the coming year.

The Rabbit filled people with a sense of cautious optimism. The spirit of the Dragon instills people with energy, vitality and unbridled enthusiasm, often throwing “caution to the wind” – which can be an ill-advised move: The Dragon is all about drama, so if you take unnecessary risks, you just might end up casting yourself as the star of your very own personal tragedy.

Kissing under the Mistletoe is a tradition that’s held on for thousands of years. Mistletoe has long been regarded as an aphrodisiac and fertility herb. Mistletoe has been gathered for ages, the Druids considered it a sacred plant. Gaius Plinius Secundus (23 AD – August 25, 79 AD), better known as Pliny the Elder, was a Roman author and naturalist, wrote about the ritual of collecting Mistletoe. He wrote, “After due preparations have been made for a sacrifice and a feast under the tree, they hail it as the universal healer and bring to the spot two white bulls, whose horns have never been bound before. A priest clad in a white robe climbs the tree and with a golden sickle cuts the mistletoe, which is caught in a white cloth. Then they sacrifice the victims, praying that the gods will make their gifts propitious to those to whom they have given it.”

Dating scams have made the news several times. Scammers give Online dating a bad name.  But you can avoid them and here is how. The key is to know the scam before you are roped into it.  Usually a dating scammer pretends to fall in love after only a few online chats over a few weeks, sends fake Pictures and claims to be very well off, waiting on a huge business deal. Sometimes they even send gifts to convince the victim that they really do have lots of money and are in love.

Often times the scammer pretends that they were born in the U.S.A. but are out of the country on business, claiming to be in Australia or the UK. The scammers claim to be Important Business Men:(art dealers, high end jewelers, even Royalty!)

So on with the scam…

They talk to women for months get them hooked and really believe that they are in love (don’t worry, even smart people can be tricked by these guys; they do this to 100′s of women at a time & often work in teams).
They phone the victim (with an accent I might add), but explain that with all the travel they’ve done, they’ve picked it up. Then they rope the Victim into “A Meeting” that won’t happen of course. Just when the meeting is about to happen, all of a sudden something terrible happens.
When they have the victim really convinced of their love, they come in with the real scam.

“No, I want to come see you, but I can’t, the bank has held my funds, and I can’t come see you until you help me with the bank fees!”

(Well they say it a lot more convincing than that but you get the just of it!)
Sometimes, they start small, with a test deposit, with the scammer claiming they can’t afford their Internet service anymore and won’t be able to talk anymore.  They may even claim a family member fell ill and needs an operation. No matter what the story, it’s a lie and you are being scammed; sometimes out of your life savings!
Many women who are indeed in love send the money, even more than once, and just don’t catch on. If you send money once, they will continue to ask and if you refuse to, they never talk to you again.

So, here are some tips to keep you safe in your search for happiness:

1.) If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. (There aren’t very many Millionaires on chat sites looking for love.)
2.) Always get their name, address and phone number. They should be open to giving it to you as you are in love.
3.) Don’t bother with a Google search; they use different names so typing scam after their name will return a blank search.
4.) Don’t trust a profession of love at an unreasonably early stage of the relationship.
5.) Be cautious of claims of working out of the country.
6.)Don’t accept or trust a marriage proposal even before meeting you
7.) If they are asking for money, in any amount, turn around and run!

Of course not everyone you meet on the Internet is a crook. But keep your eyes open and don’t let your feelings cloud your judgment. You can find love, you just have to look in the right places.

Technically, the Autumn Equinox, is the exact twin of the Spring Equinox.  An equinox refers to the equality of the day in terms of dividing the day between darkness and light.  Exactly 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of moonlight or darkness are experienced during the Spring Equinox and during the Autumn Equinox.  No other time of the year can one observe such an equal occurrence.  One day each Spring and one day each Fall.

This is the season of celebrating the “Sun”  with all the bounty that its presence has presented during its season starting in the Spring and lasting throughout the Summer months.   It is a time to say farewell to the “setting sun” with the approach of the coming season of darkness, for after the Equinox of Autumn, the sun is seen less and less each day.   In mythology, it is taking its long earned rest.

From the moment of the Autumn Equinox, the Sun’s strength dwindles, until the Winter Solstice in December, when the Sun once more grows stronger and the days once again become longer than the nights.    There are myths and tales from all different cultures that emphasize in the significance of the sleeping or resting sun.  In some stories the Sun is actually imprisoned, in others it is a period of gestation, in which the sun ( and we human should begin to plan and think about the coming year – where will our profit and gains come from?).

The Autumn Equinox is the celebration of what is sometimes called the Second Harvest – or The Harvest Home.   In farming communities, it is a time when a “corn king”  or a “harvest king” is chosen in the community and raised up to a position of special importance.  Connected to this tradition is one of sacrifice to assure that the land  (or our business lives) will have great prosperity in coming year.   

Although Harvest Festivals have their roots in very ancient agrarian traditions and beliefs,  in these modern times, we still understand that it is the time to mark the calendar and make note that “growing and harvesting time” was at an end and soon winter will be upon us.  During the middle ages, under the name of “Michaelmas,” a feast in honor of the Archangel Michael took place on the day of the Equinox.   It is a time to say goodbye with heartfelt joy to the prosperous rays of the days of the long sun, as we send it on its long journey of rest.   Often the Equinox is the beginning of a period that ends with the Halloween, which is also known as “the new year” in many cultures and faiths around the world.

If you would like to celebrate the period of the Harvest Festival to bring extra good luck and prosperity to you and your home, you might consider decorating your home with a garlands of grapes and vines, gourds, pine cones, acorns, wheat, dried leaves, rattles, Indian corn, and horns of plenty.  All of these items mark the prosperity of the season.

Here is a recipe for one of my favorite Potpourris for the Autumn Equinox Season.  I hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I do.

Autumn Equinox Potpourri
Mix together the following  (the amounts are eyeballed and many of the ingredients can be found at your local health food and craft stores)
In a large glass mixing bowl put about a cup of Oak Moss mixed with 60 drops of Honeysuckle Oil  (Set aside)

Then add:
One dozen Acorns, two cups of dried and smashed Oak leaves, a cup of dried Pine Needles, a half a cup of crushed Sage (fresh is best), two cups of dried Rose Petals, one cup of dried Passionflower,  one cup of Honeysuckle. 

Stir the potpourri well and store in a tightly covered ceramic or glass container.   Lay it out in glass potpourri containers throughout the season to bring a delightful aroma to the air.

The occurrence of natural disasters, war, famine, death & poverty has definitely increased in the last 10 years. Mark it all out on the map and take a look. The Akashic Records is said to be a non physical plane or dimension where all of the records of humanity (and beyond) are stored.  Everything we are is encoded into this field… The Field of Everything.  The Akasha is not a new discovery, information on this “hall of records” dates back 5000 years and at one time was used only by initiated delegates within the theosophical community.   If it feels right to you, The Akashic Records can be called the Library of everything that was, is, and will be.

In this Library we are each given a record.  In this record, every thought, word and action for each person, place or thing is chronicled.  It is here, that we are provided with information regarding our “purpose” in this life, in past lives and possibilities for future lives.  Here we can gain insight to why we have gone through the things we have, why we are connected to those we feel bonded to, and it is also here, where we can invite healing to take place.  The Akashic Records is a sacred place to be.  The information that comes from the Akasha is also quite profound.  Sometimes simple, but profound, none the less.

If you are intrigued by the idea of having an akashic reading, here are some pointers…

To have your psychic professional give you an akashic reading you will want to come prepared with 2 things. Questions and time.  First, the questions you will want to prepare should ask, why? And how?  The Akashic Records are best used to develop and flesh out and understanding of a situation.  The records are not really a predictive tool in the sense that it is a field of information, so, it will produce the capacity for many different outcomes based on the choices YOU as the record holder make.  You can get a general sense of your options for future choices, but to ask “When will my soul mate arrive?” would be futile as The Akashic Records are not set up in the linear time space continuum that we, as humans are.  A better question would be “What do I need to know about myself that would enable my soul mate to arrive more quickly?”  The record keepers will give only the information that is required for a person to know in a particular time.  We can always ask for clarity and there is no limit to how many times we can enter the records.  The other important idea to keep in mind is that you are having your psychic professional enter the records on your behalf and to have a reading done within The Records does take some time.  Ideally, readers who are giving a reading face to face use 30 to 60 minutes to flesh out the information being received for a client.  Naturally, that isn’t always feasible for those clients who are looking for a shorter phone reading or on a tighter budget, so I would suggest that you allow at least 15 minutes.  It takes a few minutes to shift into the vibration of the records so please be patient with your advisor.

At some point this Halloween weekend, most of us will welcome groups of costumed children to our homes, where we will bestow candy and other goodies upon them.  Costumes of superheroes, cartoon characters, and other modern disguises have largely replaced the more traditional costumes, but I can’t help but smile when a five-year-old witch, ghost, or skeleton shows up at my door and says, “Trick or Treat!”

As it turns out, there’s a good reason these costumes are so traditional.  It’s only relatively recently that Halloween became what we think of as a children’s holiday.  In ancient times, particularly throughout large parts of what are now France, Britain, and Ireland, the day we call Halloween was the ancient festival of Samhain.

Samhain, or “November Eve,” was one of the “Quarter Days” that marked the start of the seasons.  In this case, the season being marked was winter.  Samhain was also the time of the year when the barrier was thinnest between the world of the living and the “Otherworld,” that is, the world of the dead and other supernatural beings such as fairies.

Spirits of people returning from the dead were known as revenants, and at this time of year it was believed that they would come back to take care of unfinished business from their lives. According to folklore, they might take the forms of living persons or even animals to accomplish their tasks.  People with strong divination skills were called upon to communicate with the returned spirits and find out what they needed in order to be at peace.

Perhaps the most important factor that changed these ancient beliefs was the arrival of Christianity.  As Christianity spread across Europe between the 5th and 10th centuries, the Catholic Church often made use of local traditional beliefs about the spirit world to help introduce and encourage popular adoption of the new religion. 

This partially explains why the Christian observances of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day take place on November 1 and November 2.  Taking place immediately after Samhain, these days were intended to attract people to Christianity by encouraging them to celebrate and honor those who had passed on to the next world.

So the next time a group of little ghosts rings your doorbell, congratulate them for helping to keep alive a very old tradition!  Happy Halloween, everyone!
