The birthstone for December is: Turquoise.

Turquoise dates into our history over 6,000 years. References of this stone made by archeologist have it dating back to the first dynasty of Egypt.

In American history, Turquoise was used for headaches, fever,  eye pain, poor sight and insect bites, just to name a few. In the case of stomache aches it was ground and mixed with water as a drink. Also is believed to alieviate anxiety, nervousness and relieves stress.

Turquoise is a sacred stone in both Oriental and Native American traditions and cultures. It is associated with the sky and is said to bring sky energy to earth. It can help speed the healing process and is known to be a Master Healer stone. This stone is also good for protection and grounding as well. Many people in these cultures wear turquoise daily for protection from harm and evil spirits. It is often strung as beads and worn on a necklace, combined wit other stones to enhance it’s properties as well as the other stones. Sometimes it is even carved into animals.

Turquoise is the planetary stone for Aquarius, Taurus and Sagittarius. Colors vary from Blue to Green and many shades in between. Wax is often infused to make the stone stronger and help it to hold together. Raw it is often chalky and full of cracks and pits.

November’s Birthstone is: Topaz

The name Topaz is a word from Sanskrit that means Fire. In Egypt, Topaz was colored with the orange/golden appearance of the Sun God, Ra. This gem was believed to protect i’s wearer from harm and showed their faithfulness to the gods. The ancient Greeks believed Topaz to give the wearer the power of invisibility in a time of attack or emergency.

Topaz is a strong crystal for the solar plexus. I keep a piece of Topaz close as I give psychic readings as it
is great for mental clarity, focus, connection to inner self and stamina. It is believed to help lessen mood swings, worries, fears, stress, anxiety and depression.  Topaz is also believed to bring  good fortune, and synchronicity. It is also used for protection, particularly protection from greed and the evil eye.

Physically, Topaz assists with blood disorders, gout, skin and tissue regeneration, poor or small appetite and aging. There are many different colors to Topaz, from Pink to yellow (these colors being the most valuable). Topaz that is colorless or near colorless is heat treated to create a wide range of blues. Yellow stones can be heat treated to make them pink, as that color happens very rarely naturally.

Opal is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word Upala, which translates to “precious stone.” Depending on the type and colors, some opal can cost more per carat than diamonds.

Opal can exist in many different types, size and colors. Opal is found in the US, Australia, Mexico, Africa, Czech Republic and many other localities. Opal forms in cracks and crevices in the stone native to the area it is found. Opal can even replace the organic material such as shells, teeth, bones and wood.

The iridescence and color of opal is caused by small silica spheres that, due to their arrangement, diffracts light and gives opal a glittery color appearance. Water content of opal can vary from 5% to 20% and is the reason to avoid rapid temperature changes to opal as it possible to crack.

 In Metaphysics, opal is believed to enhance memory, creativity and imagination. Opals are also believed to ease change as well as bringing pleasant vivid dreams to the owner of this stone. Some believe Opals enhance Psychic and intuitive gifts.

The healing properties include regulation of metabolism, and circulation to the heart. Opal is associated with the heart chakra.

Sapphires are made up structurally and chemically the exact same as Rubies. Sapphires are best known for their blue color but can be almost any color except red which are called Rubies. Sapphires and Rubies are the second hardest mineral known to man; with the hardest being Diamonds.

A Sapphire used during meditation will aid oneself in finding your hidden potential such as Psychic abilities or mediumship. This stone will help your mind to clear and focus on the path you take to begin your journey. The Sapphire is believed to help obtain your desires of wealth. This stone will also help you keep this wealth once it is obtained and help you focus in decisions pertaining to your finances.

In the far east, Sapphires were believed to help a person focus. In the case of illness this was beneficial because it was believed that if one was to focus on health during sickness you would achieve full recovery sooner.

In Europe the Sapphire was believed to protect against “the evil eye.” It would protect the wearer from evil spells and reflect the spell back to the person casting it.

Peridot in the past had been mistaken for other gems or minerals. The colors run from lime green to olive green in color. Many of the emeralds in the treasures of Royalty have been later found to be peridot. Other minerals peridot can be confused with are apatite, moldavite, garnets and tourmaline. Peridot is found on many countries but most of the market is filled by 80-90% of total gems coming from the state of Arizona. Although higher quality peridot comes from abroad, the stones mined in the United States bring the price down so it is economically available to anyone.

Peridot is the only gemstone found in meteorites. Although this is rare, sometimes it is facetted and set into jewelry. Of course being from Outer space those pieces of jewelry are quite expensive. The metaphysical properties help us with emotional balance and heal past emotional wounds.

The ancient Hindus saw the fiery red of rubies as coming from internally and thought it to be an eternal flame. It was also thought to be the most important gift to honor Buddha.

• The colors of the bedroom might need a pick me up – reds, pinks, whites all highlight the love energy. Put a pink or red bowl full of chocolate kisses on the dresser, sweets for the sweet taste of love.
• NO TV in the bedroom! As hard as that might be it will help you sleep better and keeps the room clear of outside vibrations that could confuse the love energy in the bedroom.
• Everything in the bedroom that is for decoration should be in two’s! Place two rose quartz crystals side by side on the dresser. This cure will help bring affection between you and your loved one!
