It’s a New Year – what’s one thing you’ve vowed to do/change/alter?

The one thing I have always told myself I was going to change is to be a better listener !  In 2012 especially since I have recently started reading for people again.  Spirits speak to me all the time, and I am so anxious to just blurt out what they tell me.  I am working on being a better listener to my family and friends for sure.
 

January is known as the Hobby month; what would you suggest to someone who is trying to pick up a new hobby?

A hobby is only a hobby if A). You can afford it and B). If you are sure you will enjoy it.  Think of something someone else does that you admire and give it a try if it’s not for you move on until you find what it is you are good at.  Funny story and true, my hobby is housekeeping yes, I said it and I mean it.  Two things I found out about myself very young is that I communicate with spirits and I am obsessive about cleaning.  Both of these things turned into Hobbies and money making ventures.  I didn’t plan it that way but it happened I truly enjoy them both.  I employ people and I also Clean and read for my clients.  I am not saying to do what I did but you never know what might be horrifying to someone else could turn out to be something huge for you!

Starting Over, no matter if it’s a new job or a new relationship is tough. What advice do you give clients that call about starting over?

On starting over, wow that’s tough on so many levels.  I tell my clients first and foremost, it’s not the end.
I tell them to take some time and really think realistic.  If it’s a new job be positive always, never let em see you sweat. Go into the interview and be very honest about expectations on both parts. Don’t make demands and take the time to find a job that really is right for you.  Same thing really for new relationships.  I get calls all the time from both men and women who tell me their “New Love” is married and still living with the spouse ! That blows me away, I tell them if he/she will cheat with you they will cheat on you and this won’t be the last new relationship you are looking for. That person is usually one that is unhappy with my answers and wants a refund.  I guess what I am trying to say is take your time, get what you really want and recognize up front the things that turned into the reason you are starting over in the 1st place !

What do you tell clients who call that have lost their faith in people? Whether it’s a cheating partner, a dishonest person or if they’re just having a bad day, is there advice you would give?

The advice I give clients who have lost their faith in people is hang in there.  That sounds so simple, I know.  Not all people cheat, not everyone is dishonest and if you think about it and be honest with yourself,
you have not lost complete faith or you wouldn’t be calling me ! Usually I get a chuckle and the client opens up a little more and starts to see thing more clearly!

Psychic Liz wrote an article in the Winter Newsletter introducing the history of resolutions in ancient Roman times. Here are her tips to help you succeed in the modern world!

In Roman times the new year’s tradition was one of performing simple good deeds, such as giving to the poor, now however our resolutions are much more complex, often involving breaking negative habits like smoking, eating too much, spending money we cannot afford and so on. But this type of self change is not easy, especially if our goals are vague.  A recent study at the University of Minnesota showed that 80% of the 100 million Americans who make resolutions give them up within two months. For us this is good news because we are the 20% who will succeed and there is a proven way to do so. If we follow these steps, we will succeed. Here they are.

Be definite in your goals
Just as in visualization when we must be very precise, we need to be just as sure in defining our goals, if losing weight is your goal you must state exactly how much weight you would like to lose and it must be a reasonable goal. Do not take on more than two goals, when we resolve to lose weight, quit smoking and pay off the Visa we are asking too much of ourselves.  Our resolutions must be manageable or we are programming ourselves for failure.
Stay positive
Swearing off sweets and saying things like “I will never have cake again” only focuses on the problem in a negative way. Instead say things like “I will eat healthier and treat myself on special occasions If I choose to”

Shorten the time line
Those 80% that we spoke about earlier did not make it past two months. Let’s make it a little easier on ourselves, we will make our goal the fourth of July and you and I will have gone three times longer than most. Independence day can mean freedom in more ways than one.

Define the bumps in the road
Acknowledging and preparing for the obstacles upfront will allow you to cope with them better. Recognize that some people may not want us to succeed for whatever reasons they may have, sometimes good intentioned ones. (Grandma’s apple cake and” Eat up, you’re too skinny now, why do you want to lose weight?”)

Leave the past behind
Don’t let a previous failed attempt follow you into the future. As Janus might advise, close that door and enter into the new year confident that you can achieve what you set out to do. Take it one day at a time, and be as kind to yourself as you would be to a friend.

And finally, as usual, I have a quote, this one from Arnold Bennett: “Beware of undertaking too much at the start. Be content with quite a little. Allow for accidents. Allow for human nature, especially your own.”

Dating scams have made the news several times. Scammers give Online dating a bad name.  But you can avoid them and here is how. The key is to know the scam before you are roped into it.  Usually a dating scammer pretends to fall in love after only a few online chats over a few weeks, sends fake Pictures and claims to be very well off, waiting on a huge business deal. Sometimes they even send gifts to convince the victim that they really do have lots of money and are in love.

Often times the scammer pretends that they were born in the U.S.A. but are out of the country on business, claiming to be in Australia or the UK. The scammers claim to be Important Business Men:(art dealers, high end jewelers, even Royalty!)

So on with the scam…

They talk to women for months get them hooked and really believe that they are in love (don’t worry, even smart people can be tricked by these guys; they do this to 100′s of women at a time & often work in teams).
They phone the victim (with an accent I might add), but explain that with all the travel they’ve done, they’ve picked it up. Then they rope the Victim into “A Meeting” that won’t happen of course. Just when the meeting is about to happen, all of a sudden something terrible happens.
When they have the victim really convinced of their love, they come in with the real scam.

“No, I want to come see you, but I can’t, the bank has held my funds, and I can’t come see you until you help me with the bank fees!”

(Well they say it a lot more convincing than that but you get the just of it!)
Sometimes, they start small, with a test deposit, with the scammer claiming they can’t afford their Internet service anymore and won’t be able to talk anymore.  They may even claim a family member fell ill and needs an operation. No matter what the story, it’s a lie and you are being scammed; sometimes out of your life savings!
Many women who are indeed in love send the money, even more than once, and just don’t catch on. If you send money once, they will continue to ask and if you refuse to, they never talk to you again.

So, here are some tips to keep you safe in your search for happiness:

1.) If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. (There aren’t very many Millionaires on chat sites looking for love.)
2.) Always get their name, address and phone number. They should be open to giving it to you as you are in love.
3.) Don’t bother with a Google search; they use different names so typing scam after their name will return a blank search.
4.) Don’t trust a profession of love at an unreasonably early stage of the relationship.
5.) Be cautious of claims of working out of the country.
6.)Don’t accept or trust a marriage proposal even before meeting you
7.) If they are asking for money, in any amount, turn around and run!

Of course not everyone you meet on the Internet is a crook. But keep your eyes open and don’t let your feelings cloud your judgment. You can find love, you just have to look in the right places.

Did you always feel as though you had special abilities or did it sneak up on you?

I have been gifted since I was a child.  My first sighting of spirit happened at age 7 when my grandmother who had just passed away appeared to me.  My deceased grandmother wanted to let my mother know that she was okay. 

I suppressed my gifts after being chided in middle school for being “different” and “seeing spirit.”  After my near death experience, my gifts reemerged stronger and in full force.

When you connect with someone, what sensations do you get?

I basically use all my five senses plus the unseen ones.  The ones termed extrasensory perception. 

What do you tell your clients who are disappointed with a particular piece of information?

I tell the client diplomatically and with empathy.  I try to tell the client that it is better to know now rather than later.  If they are asking me a question in the first place, they themselves have some clue using their own intuition that something is not quite right. 

Is Halloween a special holiday for you, due to the veil between this world and the spirit world being at its thinnest?

Halloween is like any other holiday in my opinion.  Yes the veil between this world and the spirit realm is thin.  I have had more spirits appear to me during this time than any other.

During the month of October, do you feel more connected with Spirit?

I feel connected to Spirit most of the time.  I do not need a particular month to help that special connection.

At what age did you realize you had Psychic abilities & what were they?

I was 15 and started having friends around. I’d never really spent time outside of school with my friends before that age. So, at 15, as I’m spending time with friends and they’re coming to me with problems at home or with their boyfriend/girlfriend, I always knew the situation even before he or she would speak it. I just felt so intune with them as they were talking and I would mention things about their lives that they had not previously told me — and in many cases had not ever told anyone. At the time, I didn’t really give it much thought, I just used the knowledge I had of them to help them in their times of crisis. Soon, I was known as the ‘mom’ of the group and people I didn’t even know would come to me with their problems. 

Does anyone in your family have these abilities? Did you bond over these abilities?

My maternal grandmother always talks down about psychics and acts strange when the topic comes up. Her words and actions lead me to believe that she also has some abilities but was either reprimanded for them or was simply discouraged from ever acting on them.

Did you ever get into any trouble or out of any trouble because of your psychic abilities?

Not that I recall. However, my children have gotten in trouble because of them. (lol)  

What would you tell someone who was skeptical of Psychics?

I would encourage him/her to open their mind, relax and just try a reading. Unfortunately, many skeptics are so steadfast in their belief that a reading would be difficult as they unknowingly have built up psychic walls that make it difficult to read them.  

Is there a way for someone to ‘sharpen’ there psychic abilities?

There are a few very good subliminal CDs that have helped some of my clients to build on their own natural abilities. I’m sure there are ‘exercises’ one can do that would help as well; however, I’m not aware of any.  

What is your favorite Psychic gift and why?

Although I do not like to use it often because it is so draining, I really enjoy being able to contact people from the other side. I’ve never been able to contact my own mother who died in 1987, although she has spoken to me briefly with messages for my youngest brother. I know what it would mean to me to find someone who could contact her so I can ask her a few questions. So I can only imagine how I help my clients when I’m able to contact their lost loved ones. I know it often means everything to them.

Do you have a particularly interesting/amazing story where you helped a customer/friend/family member using your psychic abilities? 

Yes, the first time I realized I could contact people who have passed! I had a regular client who would call often wanting to know about any new man coming into her life. I could tell she was very depressed and everything in her life was dependent upon a man coming along and basically knocking on her door and sweeping her off her feet. (she rarely left the house) Four sessions in a row, I would describe a man I was seeing around her and I would even give an actual name, Roger. His name and description were crystal clear to me but she always said she didn’t know anyone like that or with that name. Again, this went on for four consecutive sessions. When not talking with her, I would often hear, “He’s her father.” But I could never get anymore than that so I didn’t know just whose father “he” was or even who he was. So, this client calls me one day and I could see her depression was extreme. Again, I talk about Roger and she finally says, “Well, that was my dad’s name and my brother is also named Roger.” Bingo! I described the man again and she said the description matched her father before he died. At that time, I realize I’m talking with both of her deceased parents and I relay everything I get from them to her. By the end of the call, her spirits were lifted and she was actually happy. I later learned that she was fully intent on commiting suicide depending upon the outcome of that particular reading.

When people have lost a true love they feel abandonded, alone, and  forlorn. They ask their love “Why did you leave me?!”  “Why did you die!”  Memories of their lost love fill their days and haunt thier dreams leaving them with the sense of not being totally alive yet not totally dead. They are in essence “walking between the worlds”.       

The greif consumes them so much so that they seldom are able to consider that their loved one greives with them. Their loved misses them too. The age of Enlightenment has left our knowldege  of our afterlives bereft of our ancient wisdoms of death.  We have lost our death stories.                 

In almost every ancient culture I have studied (and my professional experience) on the subject, the dead do not “leave”. Their souls stay earth bound. This is widely known in Asia and among Shamans. It is THE reason that bodies were mummified and offerings were left at graves and tombs. It showed the ghosts of those who had died that the living still cared for and valued them. Remebrances for the dead can even be found in the Old Testament in the book of Macabees (a book that was edited out of the King James bible) Mel Gibson is even working on a movie about the Macabees.                     

What is it that we in modern western society have forgotten? That ghosts are people with out physical bodies. That they still love those who are alive and wish to help and aid their loved ones. They really don’t “go” anywhere most of the time. However just as when they were incarnate, they need to know know they are loved and appreciated. Just as any incarnate  person, if they are not needed or wanted  they will go to “sleep” and lose touch with the world. 

We can help those we love who have died by remebering them often.There are amany wyas we can do this. Keeping a plant in memory of them either in a pot or in our yards helps them  to stay anchored to the physical realm. Offering a toast to them on their birthday or some other special day.  Lighting candles at church or having masses said for them as the Catholics do. Making an altar for them as many  Buddists and Asians do. Telling their descandants true postive things about them. Even just talking to them telling them how we feel asking them for their aid will help them to be with us more stongly. We all want to be needed and know that we are loved, the same applies to ghosts.                          

The saddest thing is when we forget about them . The only thing worse is when we try to make them  “cross over” because what we are telling them in essence is that we do not want them to be a part of our lives. The majority of ancient cosmologies (Asia,parts of  Northern Europe,the Americas, Africa) believed that the dead usually did not leave us  to go another place. Instead they stay and help us. Peter Akroyd Dan Akroyd’s father has a wonderful book on this subject. The Akroyd’s have been spiritualists since the 1800′s and Ghost Busters was inspired by Dan Akroyd’s childhood experiences living with ghosts.

Many times in my professional mediumship  practice I have talked with people who have lost a true love. Yet their love was standing right next to them. I helped them to understand the nature of physical death more clearly and realize that their love didn’t leave them at all. This in essence ‘links” them once again to their lost love and they can again feel that love that has been missing from their lives.

This week, we sat down and chatted with Psychic Nancy, throwing in some Halloween themed questions to get in the spirit!

Do you remember your first Psychic encounter? What happened?

I do remember my first psychic encounter. We were living in California and I had just called my son down from upstairs. On his way down, I stood at the landing and told him that we were going to have an earthquake and it was going to be a big one. This was the quake of 1981, 7.1 on the scale. I just knew it before it happened. He did not even get all the way down the stairs when it started.
Actually, that was not my first……but a very memorable one in my mind.

Are your family and friends supportive of your Psychic abilities? If so, do you give readings to them?

My family & friends are VERY supportive of my abilities, and Yes I do readings for many of them. They are amazed at so many things I have told them.

Who’s the most influential teacher you’ve had?

My most influential teacher was an 8th grade teacher who taught me the love of travel and experiencing different cultures. He opened my mind to the world out there.

What do you think one misconception about Psychics is and how do you address it?

One very misconception about psychics is that we are mind readers. We can’t always read ones mind……we do need some direction in order to do a correct reading. Another misconception is that we are fortune tellers. One way I address it is to tell them that I need more information on their actual issue in order to address it correctly. As for fortune tellers, If I knew what lottery numbers were coming out……would I be there talking with them. I usually get a laugh out of that.

In the spirit of Halloween, do you go all out during the spooky month?

We do go all out on Halloween. My 30 year old son decorates our home and it is usually the hit of the neighborhood. Some of it is quite spooky, but all in fun.

Do you feel more connectivity to spirits during this time of year?

I can’t say that I feel more connected to spirits at this time than others. But, if I am in a place where many spirits are……I can feel them. One Halloween we were in Gettysburg, PA and I had so many spirit contacts there. Some of the people had so many feelings they needed to get out about dying on a Battlefield before it was their time to pass on. It was quite over whelming.

When did you know you had a gift?

I was actually born with it. It was inherited from my family. It’s really weird, we would listen to our grandmother tell us things that were going to happen. It’s an everyday thing for us.

Why do you like what you do?

I like to help people. It’s within me to make people feel better or at least see things for what they really are. And that runs in the family. We’re all medical/healing kind of people in our professions as well.

What’s one of the most memorable readings you have had?

It was my husband and I on our first Christmas together. We were getting ready for bed. I looked at him and I said I hope the computer you got me has a purple light. He got angry – he built it for me and kept it at his friend’s house so I would not find out about it. The next year he got me a book and I shouted “you got the new Stephen Colbert book for me!” before I opened it. Every year he gets 10 kinds of frustration with me because I can tell what he got before I opened it.

At what age did you realize you had Psychic abilities & what were they?

I never knew I was psychic till I went to the Edgar Cayce foundation and it felt like I had come home. I took some intuition development classes, I teach them now, and found out  that I was very psychic. I found out that I connect through your energy field of my client’s , the information comes through my hand , as if my hand was telling me a story, I learned to refine  it later by inviting guides and angels to talk to me , answer my questions.

Do you have a particularly interesting/amazing story where you helped a customer/friend/family member using your psychic abilities? 

I am also a massage therapy instructor, and remember helping a client while giving her a massage. She told me that she had been disturbed every night for 5 years by some spirit, this spirit was scaring her cat, turning on lights, opening and closing doors. She had not had a good night’s sleep for 5 years. She had had someone over for exorcism, medicine men tried to help and more and still the spirit remained. I was not ready for this, I had figured this was just going to be a massage, so I asked for help, guidance.
I felt directed in asking questions, while giving the massage, she explained that 5 years earlier a friend, room mate invited spirit in and she was having great results, so my client did the same, the only problem was she was not ready for it.

At some point in our conversations I was inspired to recommend that she ask this spirit to leave in the same way she had invited it in. I spoke with my client a few weeks later and she told me she did what I suggested and her spirit never came back. It was a great feeling to be able to help my client regain her peaceful life.
Is there a way for someone to ‘sharpen’ there psychic abilities?

If someone wanted to sharpen their psychic abilities, I would certainly recommend the training at the A.R. E, the Edgar Cayce foundation in Virginia Beach, their program was created by Cayce to help people realize how connected we really are to each other and how by connecting through intuition, he calls intuition The voice of our soul, we can truly get to know one another . The training is gentle and goes in depth. After 3 weeks of training, spread over a year, I could do a reading on someone from a name on a piece of paper.

What would you tell someone who was skeptical of Psychics?

To help someone who is doubtful about psychics, I would explain how we are all made of energy and everything about us is in our energy field, everything from our past , present and future are present as a vibration. By quieting my mind, I can feel the vibration and listen to what it says. When it comes to the future, the vibration expresses what you are creating through your thoughts and feeling. Edgar Cayce said that everything in a reading is in the realm of possibilities. You can always change the future by changing your thoughts and feelings. This is why getting a reading can be so helpful. By looking at what is coming in your future, you can decide what you want and what you don’t want and change the outcome. It takes practice, focus and meditation to do this with ease!
