According to the Native Medicine Wheel which my Elders taught to me, the end of August heralds in the last Moon of the Summer. This time of year falls under the watchful eye of the Wolf and under the Moon of the Little Black Bear. The plant totem of this time of year is the Violet, and the mineral totem is Amethyst. It would be beneficial to wear Amethyst, as it enables us to connect deeper with our inner spirits and teaches us where to find the answers within our own being.

People born under this Moon have a wonderful attention to detail and are meticulous in their work, but they must remember that not everyone shares this enthusiasm. Others may find Black Bear Moon people harsh and critical, when in reality they just want things done right. I’m a Black Bear Moon child, so I understand this lesson all too well! We must remember that our way is not the only way; do we want to be happy or do we want to be right?! There is a genuine kindness and desire to help around Black Bear Moon people. However, we must be mindful not to let upsets stress us, for this can cause an upset to our entire system, particularly the digestive organs.

One of the biggest lessons for this Moon is to remember that we are all divine children of the Universe. We are who, and where, and what we are for a divine reason. Realizing this is our first step towards contentment; for true contentment is not something we have or something we do but it is a state of mind, something we CHOOSE to be. Be here now. Be fully in the moment. Remember that every moment has a gift and a beauty. When we choose to be content rather than always looking for more, the elusive ‘more’ will always find us. When we are fully in the moment there is no room for boredom or anxiety for we are content just to be, and our spirit is full with whatever Creator gives us. Other people and exterior situations cannot make us happy; that comes from within ourselves and it is only when we realize this and take complete control of our lives can we truly ever be content.
