Chinese Astrology:
What is your totem?

29th July, 2009 - Posted by Maxine x7791

When I was a little girl my parents bought me a giraffe made of wood about four feet high painted blue and white, it was a place I could hang up my jacket or sweaters – I never really did put anything on my giraffe and regarded him (it was a boy giraffe in my head) as a “watcher” as his shadow loomed over me in the dark of night. We lived across the street from Prospect Park in Brooklyn where they housed a beautiful zoo and at least once a week I was taken to the zoo and yes my favorite animal was the beautiful giraffe. I was in awe of their size and the neck… how incredible I thought.

The giraffe totem represents watchfulness and mobility. I have a totem power stone of a giraffe on my desk – it was a lovely gift from a dear friend many years ago. I have always known that animals play a big part in our spirituality and through my years of doing readings I have come to understand the effect and purpose of having a totem to relate to, or help to guide or even to give strength when needed.

Chinese Astrology has a big impact on my life and in my readings as the year you were born is the animal in your heart. I am born in the year of the Rat translated into the totem system the rat/mouse represents; timid, secretive, sneaky, not traits that one would be proud of yet there is a positive side to the totem mouse – being able to keep a secret, knowing when to hold back, and being able to hide feelings or presents and being able to keep my mouth shut when needed.

Below is a list of the Chinese animal and the Totem Power Stone that connects them along with the totem meaning.

Many people use pictures and statues to dress the home with, these items are usually meaningful even if you are not aware of your Chinese Astro sign or what Totem best suits you it has been true on more occasion than not that people will have what they are about in their environment.

My best friend has the turtle as her totem which I totally embrace and was able to find these beautiful jade and obsidian snowflake turtle pendants- the turtle totem is self-contained creative source. My house is full of totems they are my favorite – the giraffe, cat, pig, rat and yin yang items. Infused with feng shui a feeling of calm and peacefulness embraces my home.
