The July Birthstone is: Ruby. Ruby is the second hardest mineral known to man and is the red color variety of the mineral Corundum.

The ancient Hindus saw the fiery red of rubies as coming from internally and thought it to be an eternal flame. It was also thought to be the most important gift to honor Buddha.

Clarity and wisdom are a metaphysical property of Rubies. A ruby is believed to bring clarity and focus as well as the ability to help you choose your most productive path. Rubies are also said to stimulate interaction between conscious and the subconscious mind causing lucid dreaming.

Meditating with a ruby will open your base or root chakra. The ruby is said to light a fiery path through our darkest fears.It is often worn to alleviate blood disorders, such as anemia, poor circulation as well as menstral problems.

This stone represents passion and strong feelings, and is a symbol of love and vitality. From ancient to present, Rubies have been used in a variety of ways. In the bible book of Exodus it is mentioned in Aaron’s breastplate as “sardius”. This is the ancient name for rubies. In modern times artificial Rubies were used in many of the first lasers used in the field of science.

Thanks Leo, for the wonderful article. I have been looking forward to learning more about my birthstone, its meaning and uses.

Now, I just need to have my birthday “Dinner with the Stars” that Moira recommended and then settle down and enjoy some deep meditation while holding my birthstone, the Ruby!
