A budget is not as hard as it seems

Keeping up with your finances is not an easy task. It can be extremely stressful keeping up with everything you spend, and if money is coming and going, then there is nothing left to save.  Since we are emotional beings, we like to have a feeling of being secure and safe. However, we are always thinking "what if?"  I know most people would relax by having a good chunk of money in a savings account.  This is why you need a budget. Just so you can stop stressing about money and start focusing more time on enjoying life!

There are a couple of different ways to go about this. First you need to know how much money you bring in each month, and have all the bills you need to pay in front of you. Next, you need to know where your money is going by keeping all of your receipts.  Create a spreadsheet or a chart and categorize everything such as money spent in restaurants, or utilities, entertainment, etc.

For one month come home each day for five minutes and put everything you have spent for the day in your spreadsheet or chart, and by the end of the month you will have an idea where all your money is going. From there you can create a budget based on the things you like, and from the money left over you can start saving money. Just imagine how much easier it would be?

Another way is to sign up through a web-site such as Mint.com which will access your bank account and tell you exactly where you are spending your money. From there you can set up a budget that fits your needs, and see if you are sticking to your budget or not. The site basically does it all for you, then you rearrange what you need to from there, and end up with money left over each month. You can also set up savings goals through the site which will tell you exactly how much to put back to meet a certain goal. I highly recommend it!!

You can budget either way, and the return is fantastic for just five minutes a day of your time (sometimes ten minutes or so to create your budget for the month). Then you have more time free for the things you enjoy and your sense of security back. Time to relax!
