- The origin of playing cards is a mystery. The history of a traditional 52 card playing deck, as well as the varied meanings of the individual cards, can be traced through centuries of writings.
- Cartomancy reached it's height of popularity in 18th century France when noble men and women, including the Empress Josephine, regularly consulted the wisdom of Cartomancers. It is believed that a psychic Cartomancer first told Josephine of the great future awaiting her, including a marriage of fame and fortune, followed by a fall from grace.
- The 52 playing cards we use today are believed to be directly related to the 56 cards of the Minor Arcana found in traditional tarot decks.
- The four suits in a playing deck correlate to the four astrological elements; Clubs to Fire, Diamonds to Earth, Spades to Air, and Hearts to Water. The suits also have overlying influences that must be interpreted by the reader.
- The 13 cards in each suite correspond to the 13 lunar cycles in each year, and the 12 court cards correspond to the 12 sun signs of the zodiac.
